Sickness.

Again I was taken out of the game by bronchitis which turned into pneumonia.  I'm sorry for being so behind!

Stormie

The Girl in the Lighthouse.

Let me say first, I have NEVER promised to be nice in my reviews, but I try to find positives. In this series...there are none!
There was no overview for this series.  I have to admit, I picked up the first from Free Friday give aways. I liked the first one and it intrigued me to pick up the second....though....the author has no clue about the south.  It's collard greens, not collard beans....they are eaten together, but never in the same pot.  Plus even in the 1800's, not all "corn bread" was called corn pone.  The references to the south really was annoying making us look as if we were uneducated and stupid.  Which in itself was not the brightest thing sense the main characters parents were from Savannah, GA.

The second book was a headache!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Lillian NEVER caught a break EVER!  Everyone's life has some up's but this girls was continual downward spiral the whole way.  She finally marries the love her life only to have her husband show back up, who's dead?!  And chooses the dead husband?  Come on!  The whole thing was a V.C. Andrews rip off in my opinion, and not even the great author V.C. Andrews, not the lame one's that have been ghost writing under her name.

Boo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Don't waste your money!

Now, Markus must flee the dragon without killing it ... or his beloved brother will be the next to die.

REVIEW BY THE BOOKWORM

Eragon with a twist!  Actually to me, this is better than Eragon.  Yes, you Paloni people beat me to death. I didn't say I didn't like him. I own all the books.  It's just, simply put, BETTER!  There is more meat on the bones so to speak.

Markus is a more developed character right from the start. He is growing in ways that Eragon does not need to grow, and I find myself compelled to get to know more and more about it.  The overview gives you all the information that you need.

But this is a read that you have to do!  I'm serious!  You will NOT regret it!

Krysta's Curse by Tara West

REVEIW BY THE BOOKWORM

Let me say, I forgot to put the overview on here.  >.<  Completely my fault.  But you can find it at BN.com.  This is the last book so far in the Whispers series, and I am completely in love.  I have love Krysta's character the most so far.

She looks at her gift as a curse, but she doesn't know that there are people that she loves, or could have loved around her.  I won't give away the book, but if you haven't read this series, it is a definate must!

Review by the Bookworm

What can I say?  I was left hanging. I enjoyed this book immensely, but I'm also glad to be getting out of the series, for now.  Why?  Because Mrs. James has left us hanging.  Seems like she will be approaching the story by the way of Christian's point of view.  Why does this sound familiar?  Maybe like our favorite sparkly vampire Edward?  We have been left hanging by Miss Meyer for years now.  I can only hope that James doesn't do the same to us.

The overview goes into everything that you know. I just wish the sex was cut out.  I mean...yeah, we get it...they are sexually active for pete's sake.  The storyline was slow in the first book.  It only picked up in the second book.  I can't say I liked the ending. I wanted Elena to get it up the arse and be the bad guy.  Was kinda disappointing on that side.

Should you read it?  I will leave that up to you.  Will I pick it up again?  Most def!

Overview by B&N

Daunted by the singular tastes and dark secrets of the beautiful, tormented young entrepreneur Christian Grey, Anastasia Steele has broken off their relationship to start a new career with a Seattle publishing house. But desire for Christian still dominates her every waking thought, and when he proposes a new arrangement, Anastasia cannot resist. They rekindle their searing sensual affair, and Anastasia learns more about the harrowing past of her damaged, driven and demanding Fifty Shades. While Christian wrestles with his inner demons, Anastasia must confront the anger and envy of the women who came before her, and make the most important decision of her life. This book is intended for mature audiences.
Review by the Bookworm

This should have been the first book. Period.  The first one was way too slow and you wanted to slap Christian for taking so long, and you wanted to beat Ana for just hanging around.  Sure, us women want a little mystery, but there was basically no plot in the first one.  At least this one had a plot and you got to delve deep into Christian's mind.  WAAAAAY BETTER!

Highly recommended.

Review for Fifty Shades of Grey by E L James

OVERVIEW BY B&N

When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms. Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success—his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family—Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires. Erotic, amusing, and deeply moving, the Fifty Shades Trilogy is a tale that will obsess you, possess you, and stay with you forever.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PROCEED NO FURTHER IF YOU HAVE NOT READ!

I am sitting here contemplating on just how to proceed with this review.  I read the ones that were out here and my sister in law convienced me into reading it.  I will say this is for a mature audience and NO TEENAGER SHOULD BE READING THIS!

Anastasia Steele meets greek god Christian Grey and falls into the dark world of binding, spanking, and use of adult toys.  Yep. That's about it.  Her confusing thoughts on Christian are minimal.  Her character and his are lacking in development with only glimpses into his past.

I nearly found myself skipping pages and stuck to it, because I wanted to give this book a fair shake.  Finally, nearing the end of the book you start to fall in love with tortured Christian Grey who is hiding his fair amount of secrets in his past.  You start to see him through Ana's eyes and yearn to learn more about the vunerable man who hides behind his 50 shades of f'd up.

I give it a four out of five stars, not for the sex, for that really didn't appeal to me, but for the development that started to happen at the end of the book.  Needless to say Mrs. James saved it from total disaster, but could have delved deeper into Christian in the middle of the book than at the end.

I have just picked up the second in the series....that is saying something...right?

Review Don't Judge a Book By Its Magic by Kate Policani

Overview

Colleen is a normal girl. She loves shoes, chick flicks, and cute clothes. The only thing abnormal about her is that she’s just become a magician; not the disappearing bunny kind, but the power-shooting-out-of-your-hands kind of magician. Her problem now is that she doesn’t believe in magic. Well, she believes in it. She’s seen it shoot out of her own hands, but she opposes it in a moral sense; no hexes, no spells, no incantations, no potions, no amulets, no tomes, no casting circles, no eye of newt, none of that. She has to be very clear because people pressure her about it. Whatever they say about “how it’s done”, this is a morality issue for her and she will not cave in to their pressure.Join Colleen at Seattle Pacific Regional University, where she becomes a part of The Convergence. She’ll learn the freaky side of Work Study, Financial Aid, and Vyxhepiocht. Seriously, she’s never seen so many hot guys. It’s going to be wild!

Review by the Bookworm

Max, Tynan and London, OH MY!

In "Don't Judge a Book by its Magic", we are introduced to Colleen Underhill.  A fresh from high school eighteen year old that still isn't positive on what she wants to do with her life.

She spends  her time in the local library indulging in her love of the literary world, when she happens to find a book that belongs to no one.  The library or anyone else.  Within a few chapters, Colleen's world changes.  A Christian girl with Christian beliefs, she is thrown into a world of things that were not suppose to exist, but do.

Taken from her family, she begins to learn the ways of the folk that she did not know lived within her own neighborhood, and thus finds herself not in a love triangle, but a love square!

I was pulled in immediately with the sense of style, humor, wittiness and overall actions that Miss Policani put into her characters.  Change the hair and eye color, I AM Colleen, minus the whole "magic" bit!  This book was beyond enjoyable in every sense of the word.  My one question...WILL THERE BE A SEQUAL?  Lord, I hope so!

Entertaining.  A draw.  Sucks you in and doesn't let you go.  Not the typical girl falls in love with vampire.  I wished it had ended differently, but I understand do to sequels.  I just would like for things to end on a more grounded note without leaving the reader hanging.

I highly recommend the book to anyone looking for a good supernatural thrill that leaves you looking for the next book!

Review of Ravenous by Erica Stevens

Overview by B&N

The world didn’t end with a bang, didn’t go out in a ball of fire and fury. Nor did it end in ice, but in some strange way, ice was the end; or maybe it was the beginning of something more.

Bethany is stunned and horrified when she finds herself suddenly alone in a world that was alive only moments before. Terrified, she flees into the streets of her town, looking for answers, and desperate to reach her family. Panicked, she is nearly captured by the monsters hunting her until Cade steps in to rescue her. Dark and distant, most people in school are weary of Cade, yet oddly fascinated by him. They had been close as children, but it has been years since Bethany has had any real contact with Cade. Inexplicably drawn to his dark presence, Bethany finds herself torn between her growing desire for Cade, and her boyfriend, Bret’s, unwavering love. As their situation becomes even more perilous Bethany struggles to come to terms with her past, her terrifying new reality, and her growing love for a boy that is powerful, mysterious, and deadly.
Book one of The Ravening Series.

Review by the Bookworm

So, I'm not into books about world takeovers....especially by aliens, but this one had me on edge, trying not to revert to an age old habit of biting my nails, and literally screaming at the characters to run!

I am totally in love with the character Cade.  Though there is something a little mysertious/off about him, that I think will be revealed in the second book.

Bethany finds herself in a world of frozen people.  Frightened and alone, she does find some others and try to fight their way off of a island.

Trust me, there isn't much I can say without giving everything away.  But if you like "never a dull moment," action, romance, a love triangle and a little gore, this is the book for you!

Review of Lucy and The Letter Eaters by Alisia Compton

Overview By B&N

The small town of Whiskey Falls is still reeling from a tragic accident that claimed the lives of a local resident and his infant daughter. The town is unprepared for the force of evil that has stepped down on their soil and the unlikely heroes who must stand against it. The perfect, god-like-in-status group of jocks that rule Whiskey Falls high, The Letter Eaters, does not tolerate imperfection and Lucy Bennett is not perfect.

Lucy can dream the future, but she has no idea why. She meets Cole, a handsome young man with mesmerizing blue eyes, a fast car and a dark profession. Cole is the darkness that surrounds you when you die. He is the eternal, immortal Angel of Death and he can’t hide his passion for Lucy. Not only are the two drawn to each other, but his sudden appearance in town sets off events that will reveal the real reason why The Letter Eaters torment Lucy. Moreover, the events will ultimately change the lives of Lucy, Cole and the rest of the Whiskey Falls residents forever.

Review by the Bookworm

Odd, few punctuation and writing errors.  But I can not say that it was one of my favorites.  I kept wanting Lucy to stand up for herself instead of letting the Letter eaters push her around.  The ending was slightly surprising, which was a definate pleasure.

I do recommend the book, but not for ages under 15 or so.  I believe it could cause a few nightmares to freshmen! LOL

Review of Angry: A Novel by Laura L. Smith

Overview by B&N

Emma is angry. She’s angry at her siblings, who she always has to baby sit; her parents, who are divorcing and ruining her life in the process; and herself for not measuring up to anyone’s standards.

With her simmering feelings ready to spill over at any time, Emma's self-worth plummets. Her faith in God is tested in the face of overwhelming hurt that threatens to send her over the edge. Can she turn back in time?

Review by the Bookworm

Okay, so it's rare that I pick up a book with religious overtones.  I grew up in the bible belt and was raised tride and true.  Not that I don't like Christian books, on the contrary there are many Christian authors that I do love.  It's just rare that I do pick one up.

In Angry we meet Emma.  Emma is a teen girl with her life going well.  All except for babysitting.  I disagree with the overview, she snaps at her sibs, but she's not angry at them.  And in the book, she doesn't act angry with them.  She just has moments where she snaps as we all do.

Now, her mother and father are a different breed all together. She is angry at them.  Who wouldn't be when you are 16, you just won a major role in the Les Mis play, you find a shoebox filled with things from his mistress and acts like it is you that did something wrong, and your mother is quickly becoming a sodden alcoholic mess while you are trying to keep your life on track as well as your younger siblings?

I'd be angry too.  Anyway, Emma has been to youth group and knows that you find peace when talking to God.  She always felt better, but with everything that is going on, everything that she's trying to keep together, she pushes Him further and further away.  Will Emma find the peace she's looking for without Him, or will she need to push aside her anger for a few moments and just have a little talk with Jesus?

All in all, it's a good quick pool read that will leave you thinking.

Review of Thoughtless by Jacqueline Gardner

Overview by B&M

When Bridget finds a dead cheerleader in the janitor’s closet, she becomes the killer’s next target. High school just got worse. It’s bad enough that she can hear the shocking truths that pass through her classmate’s heads. Now she has to worry about staying alive, and all clues point to the one person whose thoughts she can’t read - her boyfriend Terrence. Someone is taunting her, threatening to expose her secret. And when Bridget tries to single out her blackmailer, she’s nearly beaten to death by a mind controlled minion with fiery eyes.

But when Bridget finally comes face-to-face with the killer, suddenly a horde of brainwashed students programmed to destroy her life doesn’t seem so bad.

Review by the Bookworm

The book starts off fairly quickly, which took me by surprise, usually there is a chapter or two that is leading you up to the big moment, instead it's only a few pages.  That was worth just picking up the book to begin with, in my opinion.

We meet Bridget who isn't any other normal teen.  Instead, (weirdly like Edward Cullen) anyone who is close to her she can hear their thoughts which is a massive pain in the arse.  In getting away from overbearing thoughts, she helps out her friend only to walk in on a murder.  Now the killer is after her and another student who just happened to find Bridget with the body.

Both on the run, they become closer, with the exception that Bridget's new boyfriend, that incidently she is drawn to be cause she can't hear his thoughts, doesn't like her new found friend, nor the fact that she keeps ruining their dates.  Or does it intrigue him instead?

The book wasn't necessarily surprising, but it was very enjoyable, but the ending made me wonder if we would be seeing a sequel???????  I'd like to see how Bridget's story ends.

One of them could be the son of King Úlfur… and Morgan.

Review by the Bookworm

Simply amazing.  Puts me in mind of Game of Thrones yet totally different.  When I cracked this book, I thought, "Ugh...what possessed me?"  Then I was sucked in.  I finished the book in less than six hours.  I was constantly in it.  I was wondering what was going to happen, who was Erica going to choose.  Even though her pick is clear, my heart was thudding.

This girl is a hammer toting dynomite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Just love love love loved this book!  GET IT!

There were minor spelling errors, and a few instances were I became confused because there were past tense in a present tense, and vice versa.  But nothing that a good editor could not fix!  It ends well, but it leaves me yearning for more!

Review by the Bookworm

4 out of 5 stars.

I've read several books lately on the Nephilim, but this one doesn't, well as of yet, go into a bunch of drivel, instead it focus's on the main character Skyla and the way she comes to find out she is an angel.  My only problem thus far was her lack of ANYTHING when she finds out.  She isn't thrilled, and she isn't dismayed.  It's more like, "Oh, well isn't that nice," which I find a bit strange, and a bit refreshing.

I don't like book molds and these days they are all on one formula.  While this book doesn't exactly break the formula and present you with something totally new, it does give you a awesome look into a normal teen that finds out she's anything but.

Look into it and give me your thoughts on it.

Review of Vampire Manifesto by Rashaad Bell

Overview by B&N

The hardest thing most kids my age have to deal with is graduating high school. I wish my life was that tranquil. There is a price on my head for three point five million dollars and my every move is being shadowed by a collection of individuals calling themselves the Marauders. The only thing standing between them and me is a Vampire who takes offense to Immortals making power moves in his city without asking his permission first. Apparently I am destined to open one of the Boxes of Pandora and supernatural forces are converging on my position to either use me, because they want the contents for themselves or kill me, so the Box stays sealed forever. Vampires. Mutants. Werewolves. This is my life now. My name is Madison Amber Rose and this is the story of how I died.

Review by the Bookworm

Characters are well developed, the book was a breath of fresh air.....until page 438. Things there started to get hairy.  And I don't mean the werewolves.  I mean the whole stinking book.  It went so far off track with subtle cracks to Twilight, puppy killing, cursing, I just stopped reading.  The whole Time Thread thing was confusing.

My honest opinion. The writer is a genius that obviously thinks far beyond what my brain can comprehend, and looses touch with what his readers are willing to accept.

Don't even bother with Vampire Manifesto.  It's a literal drag.

Review of The Vampire Castle by Malla Duncan

Review by the Bookworm

This book, when I picked it out said it was from 8 to 12 years old, and I nearly didn't get it.  Then I thought, well, Harry Potter an dthe Sorcerer's Stone was for the same age division and look at it now.  This book is exactly the same!  It is another twist on the story, only this isn't a wizard, there are no spells being cast, but there is mystery and a young 11 year old girl that has found out that she not only has a lot to live up to, but alot of questions for a mysterious grandfather.

At this moment, the heroine's name is slipping my mind.  I've been under the weather as of late, so pay me no mind.  But this is definately a book you could pick up and enjoy reading without any problems.  Just don't read it to your 8 year old.....there are some scenes that made me question if such a young child could read it without being frightened.  It frightened me, otherwise, it's great!

Review of Watched by Cindy Hogan

Overview by B&N

Change.
She longs for it.
A Murder.
She will never be the same.
It takes more than a school trip to Washington, D.C. to change Christy’s life. It takes murder.
A witness to the brutal slaying of a senator’s aide, Christy finds herself watched not only by the killers and the FBI, but also by two hot guys.
She quickly discovers that if she can’t help the FBI, who want to protect her, it will cost her and her new friends their lives.

Review by the Bookworm

The writing was excellent, but I had to push through the first couple of chapters.  Though the characters was well developed it just seemed to be a slow starter.  BUT, like some wonderful movies, the slow starters usually pick up and wind up being the Oscar winners.

"Watched" is about Christy, a fifteen year old girl with aspirations of being different.  Wants to be kissed, wants a life full of adventure, and winning a trip to Washington, D.C, is her new beginning.  But her new beginning takes an awful start when she witnesses a murder with a group of her knew friends.

Now Christy is running for her life, and feeling guilty about the people that surround her.  Will the FBI save Christy and her two crushes, or will she be crushed when she learns that not only can she not have either boy, but that it's her actions that leave many people dead?

Pick it up!

Reveiw of Day of Sacrifice Omnibus by S.W. Benefeil

Review by the Bookworm

The way the author blended in waht seemed to be short stories was quite facinating and quite good.  The first story was great, though by the end of the book I was lost.  I'm not sure if it was all the cursing or what, but it started to turn me off.  I am a huge fan of Miss Benefiel, and this was no exception.  Just wish I could have changed the cursing factor.

I can't give you a run down on a plot line except to say that all Supernaturals offer up a sacrifice of their first born child for favor of the gods.  Until Flora changes all that!

This book keeps you riveted and intrigued and praying for a good outcome for Supernaturals as well as humans!

From asthma, from her parents, and from her boyfriend, Asher, who is smothering her from the inside out. She can take his cruel words, his tender words . . . until the night they go too far.

To escape, Joy sacrifices her suburban life to find the one who offered his help, a homeless boy called Creed. He introduces her to a world of fierce loyalty, to its rules of survival, and to love—a world she won’t easily let go.

Set against the backdrop of the streets of Seattle, Holly Cupala’s powerful new novel explores the subtleties of abuse, the secrets we keep, and the ways to redemption. But above all, it is an unflinching story about the extraordinary lengths one girl will go to discover her own strength.

Review by the Bookworm

This was the most heartwrenching book.  I was lost in chapter one, and had to reread it twice and was still lost.  But I kept on and realized I was reading a debut book and that it was really good.  My only complaint:  They needed to clairfiy between flashbacks and present day better.
Joy is a runaway.  Running away from an abusive boyfriend and overbearing parents.  She meets up with three other kids, May, Santos and Creed and they take her in to their fold.  Secrets abound in the code of the streets, even if they are your street family.  Joy's past haunts her.
As a victim of teen abuse this touched me to the very core.  I could identify with Joy and could easily put myself in her place.  Though I didn't run a way from home, there were times  I wish I had the balls to do it.  Congrats to Cupala for making this story so believable!

Review ov Forbidden by Syrie James

Overview by B&N

She should not exist.
He should not love her.
Claire Brennan has been attending Emerson Academy for two years now (the longest she and her mom have remained anywhere) and she’s desperate to stay put for the rest of high school. So there’s no way she’s going to tell her mom about the psychic visions she’s been having or the creepy warnings that she’s in danger.
Alec MacKenzie is fed up with his duties to watch and, when necessary, eliminate the descendants of his angelic forefathers. He chose Emerson as the ideal hiding place where he could be normal for once. He hadn’t factored Claire into his plans. . . .
Their love is forbidden, going against everything Alec has been taught to believe. But when the reason behind Claire’s unusual powers is revealed and the threat to her life becomes clear, how far will Alec go to protect her?

Review by the Bookworm

Since the overview tells it pretty well, I will move on into the review.  The humor is great, the characters are very well developed, well written, edited beautifully, keeps you entertained, but unfortunately seems like it's a rip off of the House of Night books.    I was excited to read it, but this kinda let me down.  But it was still a good read.

Review of Winterborne by Augusta Blythe

Overview by B&N

Mia Winterborne knows she is destined to be special. Her seventeenth birthday promises more than just a driver’s license. Is she a witch? The next Supergirl? Details are sketchy as her dad disappeared with all the answers when she was five. By Mia’s side is Loie Bryce, her best friend and eternal sidekick extraordinaire. The girls’ intense friendship has never wavered until now, when Andreas arrives in Salcey Ridge. They both fall hard for the British hottie, who quickly becomes a fixture in their lives. When they discover that Andreas is not who he appears to be, the frightening reality of Mia’s abilities finally hits home. The nearer Mia’s birthday draws, the more the danger escalates and long-buried lies are exposed, putting the girls on a path that they never expected.

Review by the Bookworm

Looking forward to the next in this book series.  It is predictable, but not.  You know where this is headed as soon as Mia and Loie are lounging at the pool.  What is surprising and a bit upsetting is the romance plot, but I suppose the hottie Calico is worth a noteworthy rivalry.

I am STILL not sure where the dang rooks come in on this story.  Hopefully it's explained in the next book.

I know I'm not saying much, but with the predictability of the storyline, it's hard to do so without giving away the whole shebang!  Anyway, it's worth a pick up and read!

Review of Torn by Ashley S. Morgan

Review by the Bookworm

First up, as you see there is no cover for Torn.  Because honestly, I have no idea where it came from.  It was emailed to me as a file and with several attempt to email the person back I have had NO response, but hey, si la vi!  I figure it's an unpublished book because I can not find it on any book site.  (Yep, will be opening a Good Reads account soon!)

Torn is about Isadora, a 16 year old girl who goes to a "hollywood arts" type school set on become the next great actress.  As she leaves her home heading toward school, she makes the near devestating choice of being ran down on her bike by the best looking boy she's ever seen.  Tristan.

As he helped her into the school, Izzy is over come by odd visions where the other person has no face, but she realizes it's like memories she is having.  She becomes obsessed with Tristan.  As the book progresses, she learns that the memories are of herself and that a horrible choice is to be made.

I'm not going to go into all of it, because if it ever is published, I don't want to give it away.  It does not seem it's going to be a book that has a sequal which is a breath of fresh air!  It's a nice read, one that you don't find every day, but Stacey Wallace Benefiel and Stephanie Meyer is is not!

Review of Shattered Souls by Mary Lindsey

Overview by B&N

Death, love, destiny, and danger!
Lenzi knows she must be going crazy. She's hearing voices and having visions—specifically of gravestones, floods, and a gorgeous guy with steely gray eyes. And there's nothing anyone can do to help, not even her handsome musician boyfriend, Zak. Until she meets Alden, the boy from her dreams, and learns she can speak with lost souls. Now Lenzi must choose: destiny or normalcy. Alden or Zak. Life or death. And time is quickly running out.

Review by the Bookworm

In Shattered Souls we meet Lenzi.  Lenzi lives th eunperfect life.  Her dad died a year before after he parked his truck on train tracks to avoid the voices he heard in his head.  Now, on her birthday, Lindsey has stared to hear them.

A fateful trip to the cemetary to play guitar at her father's grave leads her to a world she never thought she would be involved in.

Lenzi meets Alden, her Protector and learns that she is a Speaker.  What do Speakers do?  They talk to the dead, resolve the unresolved issues, but resolving issues is not Lenzi's only problem.  Should she choose her boyfriend Zak or the man that is drawing her in with his silver grey eyes, Alden?

Hmmm....

It had a couple of bloops (errors) in the book, but it was an alright read.  We will be seeing a sequel because the book, ironically, was left unresolved.  I say it's at least a 3 on a 5 scale.  I finished the book in like a day and a half, and I typically like my books to keep me involved for at least three days.  Hard to do with an avid bookworm such as my self, but it has happened.  If you are looking for something a tad different from were's and vamps, this book is it!

Review of Glow by Stacey Wallace Benefiel

Overview by B&N

Zellie Wells has mastered her powers and gotten the guy. She’s lived through her parents’ divorce and being separated from Avery. She’s come back from the dead.
What else is there?
Oh, yeah. REVENGE.
Discover how it all ends when Zellie and the gang finally track down Mildred and fight to right the wrongs of The Society’s past, present and future.

Reivew by the Bookworm

Miss Stacey (Mrs., I know. :)) Wallace Benefiel is truly now one of my favorite authors.  I have read and reviewed all three of the books in the Glimpse trilogy and they are frickey fliptastic!  She has made me fall in love with more characters than I ever had in a book.  Each one of them have their own unique personality and it shines through!

In the final book, (which is a super bummer, because you can see this stretching out!) Zellie must secretely put together the clues to which her grandmother (now dead) is giving her in three specific glimpses to find the arch enemy Mildred.  The woman bent on basically making The Society the most powerful group on the planet.  (Can we say massive takeover?)

Ben is reuntied with his trigger Connor, with the help of some unfortunate events.  (See, this is why I absolutely adore this book!)  Avery gets to experience power as does Zellie and Melody's pastor father.  Hey, this book is jammed packed with laughter, awwwwwweeee moments and a couple of tears.

Miss Benefiel weaves the humor, romance, heart touching sentiment into each and ever line.  If you are reading a book, chunk it now and pick up this trilogy.  You will NOT regret it.

Review of Glimmer by Stacey Wallace Benefiel

Overview by B&N

Zellie Wells’ life is changing. Her relationship with Avery is growing stronger every day, but their parents are still giving them ultimatums and trying to keep them apart. Her newly discovered powers have all but disappeared. Benjamin, another young Retroact, is back and has brought with him a painful shared vision and a troubled past. While working together to figure out what the vision means, Zellie discovers that Benjamin is a worthy friend and mentor. If only he could keep his hands off of her-if only she wanted him to...

Review by the Bookworm

Frickety-frackin fliptasic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  This author could not have made me love Zellie any more than she did in the first book Glimpse, but oh, wow, did she!

In book two of the Zellie Wells' trilogy, we find Zellie in turmoil after her Mom, Dad, Avery's Mom, and he's oh-so dead dad decide that to save Avery's life, Zellie and he have to terminate their relationship.  It seems it is then end for the romantic pair.

To keep her mind off of her forlorn love, she starts to delve into seeing how she can explore her gift with the help of Ben and Frank who where introduced to us in the first book.  Oh, me, another hot guy in the mix.  Zellie's feelings get a little out of control as well as Ben's.  Can Zellie overcome her lustful feelings for one boy for her true love?  Read the book.

The story progresses, and trust me, I love the fact that I can usually plot out the way a book is going to go, but this one kept throwing me into suprise after surprise.  The romance is hot as heck, and there are certain scenes that a younger teen shouldn't read, but over all I give this book a 100 out of 10!  Yes, 100!

Edward Cullen look out, you have met your match in two hot young mortals by the name of Avery and Ben!

Review of Dark World by Danielle Lee

Overview by B&N

A beautiful monster.

That’s what Scarlet Prince became after she was damned to a nocturnal world crawling with sphinxes, gargoyles, and necromancers. If only she’d heeded the warnings of the local legend, none of this would have happened.

With a dark destiny haunting her and unearthly powers she can’t control, she is torn between freeing the inhabitants of Dark World and satiating her lust for souls, until she finds the one thing she never expected in a war-torn netherworld: Love.

Only he’s the enemy. Loving him could very well destroy the entire realm—and every human on earth.

Review by the Bookworm

I have read one other book by Miss Lee and found it quite enjoyable.  This one took me off guard.  The first few, uh, I think they are chapters are a little slow after Scarlet finds herself damned, but then was sucked into the very end.

Now from previous reviews from other people, they said it had a surprise ending.  They must not be avid readers because it was very very predictable.  I can even tell you how the sequal is going to go and it's not even out yet.  But, if you enjoy demons (which this is a unique view on them), and D&D kinda stuff, this will be right up your alley!

Review of Anathema by K.A. Tucker

Overview by B & N

Evangeline has spent her teenage years in obscurity. Her foster parents have the emotional aptitude of robots and her classmates barely acknowledge her existence. About to turn eighteen and feeling like a social pariah, she is desperate to connect with someone. Anyone.

When Evangeline meets Sofie after literally stumbling upon her café, she believes she’s found that connection. Willing to do anything to keep it, she accepts a job as Sofie’s assistant and drops everything to fly to Manhattan, where she is thrust into a luxurious world of Prada, diamonds, and limitless cash.

With such generosity and kindness, it’s easy for Evangeline to dismiss certain oddities . . . like Sofie’s erratic and sometimes violent behavior, and the monstrous guard dogs. She’s even willing to dismiss her vivid dreams of mob-style murders, beautiful homeless people living in caves, and white-eyed demons that haunt her each night as figments of her imagination—especially when one of those figments is the gorgeous Caden. When she wakes up with bite marks on her neck, the fairy tale quickly turns into a nightmare. She slowly unravels the mystery surrounding Sofie and friends, and the reality of the bites and the “dreams.” What she discovers is far more mysterious and terrible than anything she could have imagined.

In a world where everyone has motive to lie for personal gain, Evangeline must decide which deception is least likely to get her killed.

Review by the Bookworm

Hey, this is a slightly unique outlook on vampires.  No they don't glitter, no they aren't particularly romantic...not really.  Two vampires in love with a human girl who is frozen in time inside of a statue of herself.  Yep.  You just read that right.

Now, how is Evangeline tied into this mess.  Well that would be the fault of her oh-so-not-fairy vampiremother.

I won't go into much because the overview does that for you.  It is an enjoyable fast read that leaves you wishing that for just once a book would end instead of having another book to wait for.  Although it is available if you want to pay for it.  I give it a thumbs up.

First Light-Rising Sun by Jean Rush

Overview by B&N

After Jacob’s decision to follow the Cullens to Alaska, Leah’s world begins to spiral out of control. While attempting to create a life for herself outside of La Push, an unplanned reunion with the Cullens reveals the dark secret which has haunted her since the confrontation with the Volturi. This is the exciting conclusion to First Light – An Unauthorized Sequel to the Twilight Saga.

**
Every immortal here turned to stare at me. Aro’s expression was a mixture of surprise and concern. It was now certain that I would die on this island too.
If Jacob had found a way to phase again, maybe I could too. I pushed my feelings to one side and let the anger and heat rush through me, focusing it down my spine. Come on, Leah. You can do it, I told myself. I had to find the wolf again, and quickly. Jacob needed me, more than ever, and I would not let him down.
Just as my body started to rip into its new form, Aro returned his attention to Demetri who was still holding Jacob. “Now, Demetri,” he commanded. “Kill him now.”

Review by the Bookworm

Let's start this out by saying, this is what is called, "fanfiction."  It is not written by Stephanie Meyer so do not expect it to be.

The characters are a bit off from the true characters, but that is to be expected.  There are minimal errors and that's a massive plus in my book.

It was clever of the author to use characters that were hardly explored in the original writtings, so it kept all the other stuff to a minimum also.

Now...the book is coming from the views of Leah and Renesmee.  Leah imprints on Demitri which is implausable for her.  And totally unlikely for that character, but it works in this story.  I can't ruin it for you, and  you will have to be the judge of the rest of the book.  Just check it out and make you own opinions.  Whether you are a Twilight fan or not, you should enjoy the book.  Just remember it is NOT by the author of the Twilight books.  Good for just a light, non serious read.

Review of Anathema by Megg Jensen

Overview by Goodreads

Sheltered from the outside world with no hope for escape, slave girl Reychel dreads her fifteenth birthday - when her master’s symbol is burned on the back of her bald scalp. Her best friend disappears the night before, leaving her to face the branding ceremony alone. She soon discovers nothing is as it seems when people desperate for freedom beg for Reychel's help.

Review by the Bookworm

We meet Reychel and open up to a world that, scenery and description wise, put me in mind of that 80's movie "The Beastmaster," a favorite of mine.  Reychel is a 15 year old slave that is forbidden to see the daylight without being in the presence of her master.

The morning of her fifteenth birthday, she awakens to find her best friend Ivy is gone from her bed, only to be replaced with a coin that is used by kidnappers to let other's know what has happened to the disappeared slave.  Reychel fears for her friend, but other fears take her mind from her because on that day she is to be branded by her master.

Before the "celebration", Reychel is summond to her master's quarters and tells him a story and he becomes enraged and has her thrown into a cell in the dungeon.  Fearful and wondering what she had done wrong, Reychel falls asleep in her cell to be awoken by the guard later.  (I am leaving out details, cause I do not want to spoil the book.)  At her birthday party, she is rescued by the same people that have taken Ivy.

Reychel has the "spark" and is one of the gifted.  She starts to discover her talents, and discovers a prophesy, she is also betrayed by the person she loves most, and the one that was dearest to her heart.

It's a good read, and quite entertaining.  It's recommended if you just want some downtime!

Review by the Bookworm

We are introduced to the world of Elves.  And I'm talking the hot Legolas of Lord of the Rings type elves, not the short little gnomes of the North Pole.

We are introduced to Freya, Frey to those close to her.  She is a nonmagical elf that lives with her Aunt Frannie.  An outcast and alone, most other elves leave her be.  She has a mentor by the name of Junnie that tries to teach her the magical gifts of her people.  While sitting at the table going over that days lessons, Freya finds her abilities, and with great consequence.

Her fear and anger spark her into a world she does not know, a world that is as much exciting as it is frightening.  On her journey she learns of the dark history of the elves of the north, but what part does she play in it?  I'll leave that to you when you read the book.

It is a great self published novel, the second one just out.  If you want something different from vamps and werewolves, dive into the world of the fae!  Highly recommend!

Glimpse by Stacey Wallace Benefiel

Overview by B&N

Glimpse: Zellie Wells has a devastating crush on Avery Adams, the son of her mom’s high school sweetheart. At her sixteenth birthday party, held in the basement of her dad’s church, she finally finds the courage to talk to him. Turns out, the devastating crush is mutual.

As Avery takes her hand and leads her out onto the makeshift dance floor, Zellie is overwhelmed by her first vision of his death; shocking because not only are they both covered in his blood, but they’re old, like 35, and she is pregnant.

Afraid to tell anyone about the vision, (she’d just be labeled a freaky black magic witch, right?) Zellie keeps the knowledge of Avery’s future to herself and tries to act like any other teenager in love. When they get caught on their way to a secret rendezvous by her mom and his dad, they are forbidden to see each other.

Convinced that their parents are freaking out unnecessarily, Avery and Zellie vow to be together no matter what. They continue their relationship in secret until Zellie learns that their parents are just trying to prevent her and Avery from suffering like they did. The visions are hereditary, they’re dangerous, and if they stay together the visions will come true.

Now Zellie must choose between severing all ties with Avery, like her mom did to prevent his father’s death, and finding a way to change Avery’s future.

Review by the Bookworm

Okay, the biggest rating I can give OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Okay, this lady has so got me entranced!  This is a self published novel and has no errors that I seen!  It is so fan-flippingtastic that I so wish the other books were free!  I'd love to review them!  Yep, another trilogy!

Glimpse is the story of Zellie Wells and her true love Avery Adams.  Neither know the other is infactuated with the other until her sixteenth birthday party.  Avery asks her to dance, and boom, Zellie has a vision of the future of a very dead Avery and a very pregnant Zellie.

Without giving away the plot, big, and I'm talking BIG stuff happens to throw Zellie and Avery for a loop.  Even to the point you want to smack Avery upside his head.  Zellie starts to learn how to control her powers with help from a very surprising source.

If you can, GRAB THIS BOOK!!!!!!  It is well worth the read!!!!!!  Has quickly gone to my favorites list.  Miss Stacey is going to be next month's AOTM!

Turbulent Tuesday Rant!!!!!!!!

AAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Things that just make me want to hit something!  Ugh!  Rant for the day is about the Generation X and the children they have raised.  Come on!  Could we not have instilled a little common sense, decency and all around good humor in these children?  Seriously!  These kids these days have NO respect for anyone, much less their parents or other adult figures.

The teens are out of control, no grip on reality and thinks everything should be handed to them.  There is no working for what you get, no earning respect, no politness, NOTHING!!!!  How did this happen?  I know that the grandparents were raised in the hippie generation, but they still managed to instill in their children some sort of brains that made the children think for themselves, but something happened in the 90's, and somehow basic parenting was tossed aside.

Spare the rod, spoil the child was thrown out the window.  Now everything consists of time outs, no no no no, and "I'm so sorry, she's just exhausted," days.  Time out is great, FOR MINOR ISSUES!  But when that child has purposely gone out of its way to hit, it's time to teach it that hitting hurts!  I guarentee Generation X got a few hands put across their backside!  I guess it just goes to show that we have become to "sweet" to even reprimand out own children!

Review of Queen of The Freaks

Overview by B&N

Melanie doesn’t like surprises. She especially isn’t fond of big surprises, like finding out on her nineteenth birthday that she has a secret identity. Queen Tianna is what the taxi-driving gnome called her as he drove her home from an epic party, and Melanie isn’t impressed with the new title. Sure, she likes bossing people around, but there’s way too much fun stuff that she has to sacrifice in preparation for her new role. For example, her life used to be all about parties and shopping in Bar Harbor, but now, as Queen Tianna, she is expected to give up her social life to become ruler and protector of a secret world full of trolls, goblins, and pixies.

Her summer gets even more complicated when she discovers that she has a twin brother...a twin brother kidnapped and raised by the demonically evil Dagda, who proudly takes credit for the death of her biological parents. Just when she thinks there can’t possibly be any more surprises thrown her way, Melanie finds out that her real parents were not exactly normal (really, whose are?), and that having a fairy for a mother and a vampire for a father means that Queen Tianna has some pretty whacked out genes and some very intriguing new powers.

Review by the Bookworm

OMIGOSH! This is such a pitiful excuse for literature!  It leaves such a rank taste in your mouth it's unbelievable.  With that being said there are some good things.  It's a clever plot and storyline, and it's entertaining.  The problem lies with the hero, Melanie (Tianna).  She is an egotistic maniac out for herself, and her mouth is 1,000 times worse!

Okay, I get it, the author  has a write to make his/her characters as she sees fit, but seriously, I'd rather read about someone I could like.  Not someone that has moments of likable-ness only to make you want to punch her in the face two words later.

As Forrest Gump says, "That's all I got to say about that."

Review of Trefoil by M.C. Moore

Overview By B&N

Some days are just like fairy tales. You wake up a normal teenager in NYC, but by dinner time you find out you’re a fairy princess. Meckenzie Desmond’s life took that turn as she and her triplet brother and sister find out that their mother, who disappeared when they were ten, is the fairy queen and they are meant to rule the world of Aquanis. Like every fairy tale, there is an evil lurking in the shadows to make sure there are no happy ever afters.

Review by the Bookworm
Thumbs up to M. C. Moore for a fabulous fairy adventure.  Of course, it is a trilogy and none of the other books are available.  (Why oh why do I pick these?)

In the book we meet Meckenzie, Taggart and Kellan.  Soon to be 18 year old triplets with their whole lives mapped out.  Well, all except for Meckenzie.  She has no idea what she wants to do with her life, while Taggart dreams of Harvard and a M.D behind his name and Kellan dreams of a life of professional sports.  Has their life been all rosey living on Central Park.  No.  Their mother mysteriously disappeared when they were ten, leaving them behind with their father who truly does love them.

Weeks before their eighteenth birthday they receive stunning news.   Their mother is alive.  Not only is she alive or well, she is the queen of the fey lands.  You read that right.  Fey.  Our protaganists are fairies.  Even good all-American boy Taggart, who takes it all in stride.  Along with this they find out they are developing powers, there is a fey war, and there is a reason behind why their mother disappeared all those years ago.

It has a few errors, which can be expected of a self published book.  Hey, even professionals make mistakes, but it is well thought out, well written and worth the find!  Check it out.  As for myself, I will be keeping an eye out on this author!

Memorial Day 2012

Well, Memorial Day Weekend is almost over.  For most of us, it was a three day weekend where we grilled out, went swimming, spent time with family and relaxed.  I hope that if you know any veterans that you thanked them for what they did for you and this country.  Whether or not you agreed with what, or why they were where they were, they still done it for you, and for your freedom to have your opinion.

My uncle went to Viatnam.  He was called a baby killer and spit on when he returned.  My uncle did not kill children, but was on the front lines and witnessed some horrible things.  Like his best friend in the Jeep with him being blown to bits when a gernade landed inside it with them.  His friend took the brunt of the blow to save my uncle.  That is love people.  Unconditional love of a friend.

So whether or not you had a family member serve, be thankful that someone out there cares enough for you to fight for your freedoms and opinions.  Find a vet....thank them.  Watch them tear up and smile.  Hey, it's the least you can do.

Things heat up and Aimee finds herself in love with two guys at once but as bad luck would have it she also finds her life on the line.
She must choose between living and loving for the first time.
The questions she must ask herself, Is it worth it to live forever if the person you love doesn't know you're alive, literally? Or is it better to die with their kiss upon your lips?

Review By The Bookworm

We meet Aimee James, the all out classical mathelete, bookworm, scientific nerd!  Wow!  Not the pretty prom queen!  Which her sister, Alise, is.  This book is not at all what you would believe it to be.  There are no vampire's, werewolves, but there are mythical creatures!  And yes, with a little editing this book would be better than Twilight.  There, I said it.  Better than Twilight!

I'm a critical person, and this is a self published book I read off of Smashwords.  I as of yet cannot find the sequel.  And I can't wait to find it.

Amiee has been in love with Shane since the second grade, but now he is her sister's boyfriend.  What can be worse that the guy you love hooking up with your pom-pom toting slut of a sister?  Sheesh.  Aimee is the victim of a date rape drug and is taken to the hospital with acute liver failure.  Only she has no clue, and I can't tell you alot because I'd ruin the book.

She meets Aleksander in the "in between" and becomes obsessed, but as her life becomes more and more complicated, she learns that she needs them both, but only in love with one.  Who is it?  Not to mention the new evil demon in her sites. Dorian.  A guy, not a girl.

Dying, Aimee must make a choice.  Die or take Dorian up on his offer.  Is it a choice she will regret?  Pick up the book and find out!
